Pulse automates the daily puzzle of assigning 300 field engineers to thousands of maintenance jobs — balancing skills, parts, travel time and SLA deadlines — and gives every engineer a mobile app that makes the plan feel like their own.
The challenge
A team of eight coordinators spent every morning manually building the day's schedules, and every afternoon rebuilding them as reality intervened. SLA breaches were discovered after the fact, and engineers drove an estimated 20% more miles than necessary.
01
Research
We rode along with engineers and sat with coordinators through the morning scramble. The critical finding: coordinators didn't want automation to replace their judgement, they wanted it to handle the 90% of routine decisions so they could focus on the exceptions.
02
Design
The scheduling console presents the optimiser's plan as a proposal, not a decree — coordinators can pin, swap and lock assignments and the system re-solves around them. Engineers get a clean mobile day-view with one-tap job updates and turn-by-turn handoff.
03
Development
A constraint-solving engine re-optimises the schedule continuously as jobs complete, overrun or cancel. Webhooked integrations push updates to customers automatically, and every automated decision is logged and explainable.
