Atelier is a tablet-first point-of-sale and inventory system built for a furniture retailer whose showroom experience is central to its brand. Sales staff carry the entire catalogue, live stock and lead times in their hands while walking the floor with customers.

The challenge

Off-the-shelf POS systems forced staff behind a till, breaking the consultative selling style the brand is known for. Orders for made-to-order pieces involved fabric options, lead times and delivery scheduling that no generic product could model.

01

Research

We observed sales conversations in three showrooms and found the moment of friction: stepping away from the customer to check anything. The design goal became simple to state and hard to achieve — never leave the customer's side.

02

Design

A tablet interface designed for standing use: large targets, glanceable stock states and a configurator that renders fabric and finish combinations instantly. The visual language borrows from the brand's print catalogues rather than from software.

03

Development

Offline-capable tablets sync through an event queue, so a dropped connection never loses an order. Integration with the existing ERP was wrapped behind an anti-corruption layer, letting the showroom experience evolve independently of back-office constraints.
